Mina Shears: Premium Scissors Built for Precision and Craft

製品情報

Mina Shears is Scissor Lab’s premium scissor range — a line built around the belief that a truly great tool should perform exceptionally and feel right in the hand. Every model passes individual quality inspection before leaving Japan, and production finishes in Saitama, Japan.

The Mina Shears Philosophy

The thinking behind Mina Shears is straightforward: precision cutting requires a scissor that doesn’t get in the way. That means a blade that stays sharp, an edge that glides cleanly, and a handle that reduces strain rather than causing it.

Each scissor in the range is built to that standard — no compromise in materials, no cutting corners on finish work.

Steel and Edge

All Mina Shears models use VG10 (V-Gold 10) cobalt-enhanced stainless steel, hardened to HRC 60–61. VG10 is the choice of professional scissor makers who want to balance exceptional edge retention with practicality — it holds a sharper edge longer than 440C, and unlike some ultra-hard alloys, it remains serviceable by skilled sharpeners worldwide.

The blade geometry is convex edge (hamaguri) — ground so the face curves outward toward the cutting edge. This produces the smooth, effortless cutting feel that Mina Shears is known for. Whether working wet or dry, the edge glides rather than drags.

The Range

Mina Pro Classic

The core model in the Mina range. An offset handle positions the wrist at a lower, more natural angle, reducing muscular effort across a full working day. Available from 5.0 to 7.0 inches to suit salon, barbering, and specialised dry cutting.

A versatile choice: the Pro Classic handles standard cutting, point cutting, and slide cutting equally well.

Mina Pro Crane

For stylists who want to take ergonomics further, the Pro Crane uses a deeply offset crane handle that keeps the elbow low throughout cutting. The shoulder and neck do less work on every client.

The Pro Crane is particularly valued by senior stylists, those with high daily client volumes, and anyone managing shoulder strain or rotator cuff fatigue.

Mina Left Edition

A properly constructed left-handed scissor — not a mirror image of the right-handed model, but a scissor built from the ground up for left-hand use. The blade geometry, finger ring positions, and cutting edge orientation are all correct for the left hand.

Left-handed stylists using a right-handed scissor are pushing hair rather than cutting it. The Left Edition resolves that completely.

Thinning and Texturising

The Mina range extends beyond cut scissors. Thinning scissors (セニング) and texturising scissors are produced to the same quality standard as the cut range, using the same VG10 steel and convex blade geometry where appropriate.

This means a Mina kit — cut, thinning, texturising — performs consistently across all three tools.

Quality Inspection

Every Mina Shears scissor is individually inspected before shipment. Tension adjustment, blade finish, and open/close smoothness are all checked and signed off. Scissors that don’t meet the standard don’t ship.

This isn’t unusual among premium Japanese scissor makers — it is the expectation — but it is worth stating clearly: there is no batch inspection, no sample-based quality control. Each pair is checked individually.
